Sree Mookambika Institute of Dental Sciences (SMIDS), founded in 1999, is one of the fastest growing Dental Colleges in South India. It was founded by great visionaries, Dr. Velayuthan Nair and Dr. Rema V. Nair, with the chief aim of providing impeccable dental treatment facilities to the surrounding semi- rural community. It is managed under the aegis of the Padanilam Welfare Trust with the Trustees being Dr Velayuthan Nair, Dr Rema V. Nair, Dr. R. V. Mookambika and Dr. Vinu Gopinath.

Nestled among the serene hill-scapes of Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, the lush green, eco-friendly 73 acre campus is a vast educational, research and service complex comprising of Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical Sciences, Sree Mookambika College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. It is the only dental college under The Tamil Nadu Dr. M G R Medical University which has a medical college within the same campus.

It has an undergraduate intake of 60 students, and the Post graduate degrees began in 2002 and admit 16 students yearly. All the departments are well equipped with the latest state of the art materials and equipments. They are headed by very experienced Professors and ably assisted by well qualified Assistant Professors, Readers and Lecturers.

Their relentless efforts have helped overcome all odds that we faced during our studies. Difficult concepts were made lucid by my teaching faculties so that I had not to tax my brain.

The best thing about being a student at Sree Mookambika Institute of Dental Sciences is the number of additional opportunities that are available. I enrolled myself as a student here owing to the college reputation and as one that fits my career goals. The best thing about the college is its supportive environment, helpful colleagues and encouragement of faculties to succeed as individuals. The support from staff and the many resources available has really helped –not only for academic works, but also for the upcoming entrance exams. This temple of knowledge has shaped my personality as an independent person, brimming with self confidence. The various cultural and literary events give us a platform to voice our opinions and help us to grow as leaders and as dentist with ethics.

I joined Sree Mookambika Institute of Dental Sciences in the year 2015. I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful campus and the quality of facilities that the college provides. The excellent guidance of the teachers and the amazing help I received to enhance my skill and improve my knowledge convinced me of the Excellency of our college. I have established my leadership, time management and team skills. Our professors have inspired us and challenged us towards our quest, to help us to reach the epitome of success and achievement.
