Cde Programme On “An Insight Into Laser Techniques: A Dental Interdisciplinary Approach”

The application of LASER therapy as an interdisciplinary approach in undergraduate level is less exposed in practical aspect, so for the benefit of young under-graduates, lectures and a live demonstration course on LASER therapy was organized by the Departments of Prosthodontics, Periodontics and Conservative dentistry & Endodontics in collaboration with the Academic Forum of Sree Mookambika Institute of Dental Sciences.
The Guest speaker of the day was Dr. Anuroopa .A, who is a registered dentist in UK and is currently working as an associate dentist under the north west denary of the United Kingdom. Dr. Anuroopa spoke on basic theory and physics of LASER production and its application in Prosthodontics.
The second lecture was by Dr.Sarah Christopher, Reader Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics,SMIDS, who spoke on “An Overview of LASERS in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics
The third lecture was by Dr.Sheethal Menon.V, emphasized on the importance of LASERs in Periodontics.
Dr. Arun Sadasivan, Professor, Department of Periodontics, dynamically demonstrated the application of soft tissue laser, three different applications were demonstrated. The ease and clarity of the demonstration was highly appreciated by all. The first case was a papillary type of frenal attachment. This is a rare clinical presentation. The second case was pericoronitis in a young female patient. The final case was an irritation fibroma located on the lining mucosa. All these cases were dealt with great competence.
