MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING There is a memorandum of understanding between the medical oncology and dental departments for easy access and referral. Patients who have been diagnosed with Head & Neck cancer in dental college will be given a color code (Burgundy) in their case sheet, so that priority will be given to them for all dental procedures without delay. BRIDGING DENTISTRY & ONCOLOGY Tumor Board has been formed for Head & Neck Oncology, including three dental specialists (Oral Medicine & Radiology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Pathology) and Oncology specialists, to address Cancer patients and provide utmost care to them. Postgraduate students and Undergraduate interns will be assigned with a particular patient to accompany them when needed and follow up their health status. They will also be permitted to present the case and participate in the discussion among the tumor board members. Students will be encouraged to handle the patients and educate them about the severity of the condition and immediate need for managing it. OBJECTIVES OF TUMOR BOARD Tumor Board will analyze the case and will come out with a best possible treatment protocol to the patient including the most advanced surgical procedure, Radiotherapy or Chemotherapy. Throughout this procedure the Undergraduate and Postgraduate students will be addressing and assessing all the procedures and handling the Head and Neck cancer patients. This yields the students a vast exposure to the oncology field, which makes our institution a unique one. MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH Tumor board will also deal with complex Head & Neck pathological cases which requires multidisciplinary approach. These measures focus on the better treatment option for the patients as well as educating the undergraduate and postgraduate students to handle such cases with confidence in future.
