Oral Surgery
The department of oral & maxillofacial surgery is responsible for the surgical treatment of acquired, congenital and traumatic issues related to the jaws and facial regions as well as developmental diseases of these areas. Apart from minor surgical procedures like extraction ,impaction, implant placement ,cyst removal & biopsy , major surgical procedures like maxillofacial traumas, oral cancer, orthognathic surgery, bone grafting, distraction, cleft lip and palate are done regularly. The department has the advantage of sharing the best of medical facilities such as OT, surgical ICU, twenty four hour casualty, in patient beds and advanced diagnostic aids like MRI,CT with Sree Mookambika Medical College and Hospital belonging to the same trust.
The postgraduate students see a variety of maxillofacial cases and are well trained to do cases individually. They get routinely updated by the latest technologies and technique in their field. Routine seminars, journal clubs, attending conferences, workshops are mandatory. They have the advantage of working closely with other surgical specialities from the attached medical college. The postgraduates under go intensive surgical training with postings and training in other departments like emergency, general medicine, general surgery, ENT, oncology, cleft and craniofacial, plastic surgery.
